Our stressful lifestyles are nothing new, but lately things certainly have only seemed to get worse. There is a lot changing in our world these days and transition is stressful... in any direction. The vast majority of chronic diseases have mental/emotional stress as a large component in their development and when you add in physical stresses and environmental stresses the list only gets longer. Stress can be both the cause of disease as well as the prevention of healing.

So what do you do? Despite your best efforts you really have very little control over the world -- but what you can control is your reaction. So how do you limit the impact of stress on your health.

1) Have an honest conversation with yourself and decide what stressors you CAN eliminate and which ones you cannot. This is often difficult because, we convince ourselves that something is terribly important when in reality it isn't. Sometimes just stepping back a bit and reevaluating the situation reveals that there are at least a few things you can just take off the worry "to-do" list.

2) Do things to limit the impact on your health of the stressors that you cannot avoid. Simple breathing exercises are a great place to start. Google "stress" and "breathing exercises" and you'll get enough information to keep you busy for days. Yoga, Tai Chi and Chi Kung are also great ways to keep yourself balanced amid a seemingly unbalanced world.

3) Try acupuncture. If you haven't tried it yet, you're going to be in for a real surprise. It's VERY relaxing and provides short and long term benefits and relief from stress. Even my patients that are initially apprehensive about needles are usually fast asleep just minutes after I've dimmed the lights and left the room.

Stress is a huge part of our lives, there's just no way around it but there are ways around letting it screw up your health. If you're in the mood for some slightly technical but enormously important reading on stress and its effects on our health check out an author named Hans Selye. Work that he did in the mid-50's on stress is still some of the most groundbreaking and important done to this day

Welcome to AcuCare Blog

Hello!
My name is Abe Rummage and I own AcuCare Clinic in Denver, NC. We provide Acupuncture and Chinese herbal formulas for the the North Charlotte/Lake Norman area.
Chinese Medicine (including Acupuncture, herbs and therapeutic massage) is thousands of years old and is used all over the world as supplemental and often times primary health care for a myriad of illnesses, injuries and syndromes. Yet, to a large degree, I find that very little is known in America about what acupuncture can treat successfully and how it works.
So, the purpose of AcuCare Blog will be to discuss these things, provide information about what acupuncture and Chinese medicine can treat (as well as what it can't) and how it works.
Please check back often to see what we're discussing!
